six million
Sam Katzap
Purpose: Explain how the Holocaust really happened
Audience: Anti-Semites
Six million, to most people is a huge number. Most people would want six million dollars, or six million puppies, but what about killing six million Jewish people. 72 years ago the worst tragedy in human history took place throughout Europe. Men, women, and children were ruthlessly murdered because of the religion they practiced. My family has personal experience living through these tough times. Living on the country side of Romania my grandfather Dr. Israel Katzap was only 5 when the war began, he had 10 siblings and his two parents struggling in the camps during 1941-1945. After the war my grandfather was left with just his mother and eldest sister totaling 9 family members murdered in the camps.
The Holocaust was an absolute tragedy that sadly many people do not believe happened, and that must change. Antisemitism is a huge problem in this world that most political leaders over look. Antisemitism is not only in America but all over the world, mostly in the Middle East and France. People rally in highly populated Jewish areas screaming "HOLAHOAX!!". This term was first coined by former KKK leader David Duke, the meaning of holahoax is his way of proving how the holocaust never occurred. People all over the world believe that the Holocaust never occurred because of the hatred they have for the Jewish People.
Education is power in this world. People across the world should be taught the events that occurred in Europe during 1939-1945. Through the power of education the stories of holocaust can be told to generations of people years from now. The fight to end Antisemitism is strong with more and more people learning about the Holocaust and the horrible things that took place during the war. There will always be Antisemitic people in this world, but with education that can soon all change.

Overall, the use of pathos is effective throughout this speech. The personal anecdote about your family, specifically your grandfather captures the emotion behind the Holocaust. The writing is very concise, clear and organized for any reader to follow through.
ReplyDeleteI really liked the way you incorporated the experience your family had during the Holocaust to establish ethos. The use of pathos was used heavily throughout the speech. Logos was used but not as heavily. I really like your word choice throughout your speech as well as the organization, it was a very effective speech.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this! As someone who personally relates to this, I completely agree with you. It's sad to think that there are people who believe that the Holocaust was a hoax. I really like how well you incorporated ethos, pathos, and logos. I liked how you used an example of your family, and statistics to help your argument.
ReplyDeleteI could really tell that this issue affects you greatly. You did a really good job expressing your feelings in your speech. You established pathos by including your personal experiences which makes the reader feel for you on a personal level. Overall, wonderful speech it was very well organized.
ReplyDelete1)Hello Sam. You effectively established ethos, logos, and pathos. Your use of pathos was very rich and efficient. The way you used and described the anecdote about your grandfather's experience in the holocaust made the reader recognize the how appalling the event was which made the reader have a sense of resentment to those who did not believe in the holocaust. In conjunction, your grandfather's experience strengthens the credibility within this argument. Furthermore, your use of word choice made the audience feel compassion for those affected by the tragedy- "ruthlessly murdered."
ReplyDelete2)This speech that you delivered was very moving. Nowadays, many people overlook all the abominable events that occurred or are still happening today. People make offensive jokes about 9/11, ISIS, and other horrific events. Your speech does not only inform the audience that the holocaust was genuine in existence but also spreads awareness to those who make these repulsive "jokes." Thus, I really admire what you stand for and hope that you will forever hold this stance.
